On Pride, Prejudice, and Kung Fu

“A producer said he wanted me to play ‘a Chinese.’ You know, I mean, here I am a Chinese – and, not being prejudiced or anything but thinking realistically, how many times in film is a Chinese required? And when he is hired, I immediately could see the part – pigtails, chopsticks and “ah-sos,” shuffling obediently behind the master who has saved my life… I told [the Producer] “Look, if you sign me up with all that pigtail and hopping around jazz, forget it.”

Nobody would have thought that a hip, jive-talking cat from China would ever hold cultural prominence in the United States of America in the 60’s and 70’s. Teenage Angst Has Paid off Well

I wasn’t always this hip and cool. This is what I was like during 8th grade – Freshman Year:

Notes:

  • I did actually idolize Kurt Cobain and Trent Reznor THAT MUCH. Forget the fact that Kurt Cobain ended his life with a gaping hole in his head, but it’s just about the music man.
  • I had some good-ass taste in the flicks dude. Minus the Kevin Smith stuff.
  • I filmed a ton of pointless film shorts during my first few years of highschool. People tell me they don’t have a point. I tell them they aren’t abusing enough drugs.
  • I still write screenplays. Now I have a blog too! You might have heard of it.
  • The dialogue during the script scene is between my grandmother and myself.

It was my birthday about five days ago. Between those shenanigans, my trip to Japan next week, a new job, and the writing of a movie treatment I’ve been having a hard time penning fresh updates.

Stay tuned though, I leave next Friday for Japan and I will be photo and video blogging my entire trip on here while I’m there! Expect lots of Anime Porn and Holograms!

So it Goes.

Find a subject you care about and which you in your heart feel others should care about. It is this genuine caring, and not your games with language, which will be the most compelling and seductive element in your style.
-Kurt Vonnegut

I have always been a man of contradictions. While it is true that I chop lumber and wrestle bears during the day, only to be tended to by fine young virgin maidens who feed me grapes at night, I am also a deeply conflicted and frequently emotional person.

No, I’m not saying that I cry, whimper, and kick my tiny Asian legs comically about like a little girl. I am saying that I have always yearned to just be myself, but I also have always wanted to be accepted.
